Global Youth Day on the island of Grand Bahama was a powerful expression of communion in action, as churches across the island united under the theme “Discipleship in Action” from Sermon 1 of the Week of Prayer packet. The day began with each local congregation hosting its own morning program, emphasizing practical ways to live out discipleship in daily life.
In the afternoon at 2:00 PM, the collective effort shifted toward meeting a critical community need through a blood drive. This initiative directly supported the Rand Memorial Hospital, where nurses shared that the donations gathered would help preserve the lives of approximately 18 individuals; an immediate and tangible impact of service.
Simultaneously, young people engaged in a second phase of outreach by assembling 50 care packages filled with essential grocery items. In partnership with Grand Bahama Academy, students added a personal touch by decorating each bag and inscribing their favorite Bible verses, transforming each package into both a practical gift and a message of hope.
The outreach then extended into the Caravel Beach community of Grand Bahama, the area surrounding Blessed Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church, which is currently in its building phase and, by God’s grace, hopes to complete construction by the end of the year. Dividing into groups, participants distributed the care packages and connected with residents. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with more than 40 individuals expressing interest in future outreach initiatives, prayer, and potential Bible studies.
The day concluded back at the Blessed Hope church site, where we formed a circle of unity. Under the leadership of Pastor Terry Tanis, a heartfelt prayer was offered, lifting up the community, the youth, and the broader mission of the church. It was a fitting close to a day marked by compassion, collaboration, and a clear demonstration of communion in action.
